Covid and recent turbulent times have turned our world upside down!
As you look towards 2023, here are strategies you can apply when under pressure or during uncertain times. My team and a number of clients have used these, as we were confronted by the turbulent events during the Covid period.
1) Function in day-tight compartments
Deal with one day at a time. This was one of the best pieces of advice I was given many years ago and I have applied it ever since. Let go of yesterday (you can learn from yesterday, but you can’t change yesterday) and tomorrow is not set in concrete. Deal with today. Put your energy and focus into today, one task at a time, and you will achieve more.
2) Focus on what you have direct control of
What you do, what you watch/read/listen to, what you say to yourself (your self-talk), all have impact on your energy, mental well-being, and your personal world view. Deal with one day at a time, focus on what you have control over.
This will ground you, help you to feel more optimistic, be more productive, and enable you to see opportunities when they present themselves.
Don’t be distracted by situations you may be concerned about, yet nothing you do, or say will make any difference. It’s so easy to feel disheartened or overwhelmed when operating under prolonged pressure and uncertain times. Take control. Ask yourself “What’s the best use of my time, right now?” Then focus on that.
